The Challenge
Safesearch were engaged by the Client to undertake an executive search assignment for a highly strategic and technical role, General Manager – High Hazards and Public Safety. This key leadership position was to provide leadership and direction to the High Hazards Health and Safety Inspectorate and public safety functions for the next 3-5 years. Accountability included strategy, business planning, delivery, overall performance and quality standards of the group.
The Solution
An international talent mapping project was conducted by Safesearch. As our Client required an executive with experience working within Australian, UK or Canadian legislation we focused our attention on contacting our networks and associates in these regions. We then conducted a very intensive recruitment and selection campaign in order to ensure we engaged with the highest calibre of candidates, who were open to a relocation opportunity and understood the requirements by the Client.

The Result
Safesearch successfully sourced and placed a candidate from London with vast experience with the regulator in the UK. The candidate was sourced via search and skillfully coerced out of retirement after 30 years heading up the high hazards department within the UK regulator. This suited both the candidate and client well as the Client was looking for someone who could set-up the High Hazards department for the next 3-5 years and the candidate and his family were interested in spending some time living abroad.
Due to the success of this project, Safesearch were invited to conduct another search for the Chief Inspector – Extractives. This role reported to the General Manager High Hazards and Energy Safety with a remit to lead strategy development and implementation of regulatory oversight of the extractives sector. A critical success factor for the role was the ability to engage, educate and enforce within a regulatory environment. Safesearch were successful in sourcing the perfect candidate for this position also.
